The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate a legal environment protection in armed conflicts. Paper is focused on analysis of the UN's ENMOD Convention from 1976 and Additional Protocol I of Geneva Conventions from 1977, which are representing first international law traties providing environment protection in armed conflicts, adopted in the 1970s as an answer to consequences of herbicide usage in Vietnam war. With them in terms of individual criminal responsibility it analyses provisions from Roman Statute of International Criminal Court from 1998, which adds an ecological war crime in his jurisdiction. Further, it demonstrates protection of environment in non-international armed conflicts and an important role of International Committee of Red Cross in its promotion of environment protection provision through their Guidelines for Military Manuals and Instructions on the Protection of the Environment in Times of Armed Conflict. It also demonstrates examples of case law of ICTY regarding Yugoslavia bombing and case law of other authoritative judicial bodies regarding environment protection.
