Abstract (english) | The subject of this thesis is the history of administration of the Cres Municipality in the period between 1952 and 1958 and it showcases the result of the legal research conducted in the State Archive in Rijeka.
This very topic is elaborated because the author has long been fascinated by the interesting history of the island she lives on. Cres, during it's rich history, has often been under foreign authority; first the island came under Venetian rule, and it would remain under it's government until the Fall of the Republic of Venice in 1797. This period of the Venetian reign was only briefly interrupted while the island was under the authority of the Kingdom of Croatia and Hungary. Then the island came under Austrian rule, shortly after that it became a part of the French Empire, and in the period between 1814 and 1918 it has been under the Austrian – Hungarian Empire. At the end of World War I., the island was once again handed over to Fascist Italy until the 1943, when a decision of the annexation with the Motherland has been made. But, shortly after, the islands of Cres and Lošinj were occupied by the Germans during the Second World War, and it will stay that way until the Liberation on the 20th of April, 1945. After that, the islands were assigned to Yugoslavia until the 1990 when Cres becomes part of the territory of the Republic of Croatia.
Researching numerous reports, conclusions, decisions, verdicts, and other documents, but above all because the archival material is preserved in fragments, the author's focus in the first and second part of the thesis has primarily been on the records of the People's Committee of the Cres Municipality sessions, as well as all the major issues the committees have discussed on those occasions. In the last part of the thesis, the five year perspective plan of the development and betterment of the Cres Municipality for the period between the 1958 and 1963, has been touched up.
In this thesis, the most used scientific methods have been: method of analysis and synthesis, method of description and comparation, and historical method. |
