The selected topic of this graduate thesis is hybrid criminal courts, which I consider to be an extremely important topic of international law since this is a new institute whose formation dates back to 2000. Although the tendency to punish the most serious crimes under international law goes back to the distant past, it was only by the end of the First World War that the first attempt was made to punish individuals for the commission of the most serious crimes, which was later followed by the end of the Second World War, until the development of ad hoc international criminal tribunals. The international community tought to achieve the goals by establishing hybrid criminal courts primarily in the persecution of war and other international crimes that for financial, political or legal reasons could not successfully be resolved through national and existing international criminal mechanisms. This work analyzes the very beginnings and development of the international judiciary, from the trials in Nuremberg and Tokyo, the International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, to the establishment of hybrid criminal courts. All six hybrid criminal courts have been systematically processed, and comparisons have been made, that is, the advantages and disadvantages in relation to national courts and ad hoc international tribunals.
