This paper deals with special features of the establishment on banks with regard to other joint stock corporations. Legal regulation of the establishment of bank and its business operations is important due to nature of bank operations and their role in national economy. Its business operations are continuously supervised by the Croatian National Bank (CNB) after the bank establishment. The paper deals with special features of the bank establishment with regard to other joint stock corporations: procedure for obtaining od the authorization to provide financial services and approval to acquire qualifying holding in a bank by the CNB, legal regulation of the bank initial capital and its shares, special conditions and approval for appointment of directors and supervisory board members of bank. It deals with providing of financial services in abroad and supervision of the bank business operations by the CNB. Banks currently operating in the territory of the Republic of Croatia are shown in this paper.
