Abstract
Dok su oči cijelog svijeta bile uprte u zbivanja na području bivše Jugoslavije, u maloj afričkoj državi, Ruandi, sredinom devedesetih godina prošloga stoljeća dogodili su se zločini nepamćenih razmjera i okrutnosti. Dugogodišnja diskriminacija i ideologija mržnje rezultirale su s gotovo milijun ubijenih Tutsija u svega sto dana. Kao posljedica toga, Rezolucijom Vijeća sigurnosti 955 od 8. studenoga 1994. osnovan je, temeljem Glave VII Povelje Ujedinjenih naroda, Međunarodni kazneni tribunal za Ruandu. U nadležnost predmetnog Tribunala uključeno je kažnjavanje zločina nastalih tijekom unutarnjeg sukoba, počinjenih na području Ruande, ali i njezinih građana na području susjednih država tijekom 1994. godine, i to tri skupine međunarodnih zločina: genocid, zločin protiv čovječnosti te kršenje članka 3. zajedničkog Ženevskim konvencijama i Dodatnog protokola II.
Abstract (english)
With the eyes of the world focused on events in the former Yugoslavia, in the small African country of Rwanda, crimes of unprecedented proportions and cruelty took place in the mid-1990s. Years of discrimination and hate ideology resulted in nearly a million Tutsis killed in just one hundred days. Consequently, Security Council Resolution 955 of 8 November 1994 established, under Title VII of the United Nations Charter, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. The jurisdiction of the Tribunal includes the punishment of crimes committed during the internal conflict, committed in Rwanda, but also its citizens in neighboring countries during 1994, namely three groups of international crimes: genocide, crime against humanity and violation of Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocol II.
