This thesis deals with the institute of termination of probate proceedings. For easier understanding of the mentioned topic, it is divided into three parts. The first, introductory part deals with the notion of public notaries with their role in probate proceedings, and then summarizes the inheritance system in the Republic of Croatia with emphasis on its historical development, assumptions and principles of inheritance and further the notion of testamentary disposition for easier understanding of the central part of the thesis. Furthermore, in the second part of the thesis, the sequence of the probate procedure itself is chronologically processed, starting from its initiation until its end with a legally binding decision on inheritance. In the third, central part of the thesis, the concept of termination of proceedings and the reasons for termination of proceedings prescribed by the Civil Procedure Act, which generally regulates the above – mentioned issue, are discussed, and then the termination of probate proceedings prescribed by the Inheritance Act is elaborated with specific reasons for termination under the title of testamentary disposition which are supported by various domestic court decisions. The thesis deals with certain reasons for termination of probate proceedings, which does not mean that these are also the only reasons for termination – these are the most common reasons that lead to the temporary suspension of probate proceedings.
